Best Gears for Texas Mile
I'm driving the car in the Texas Mile later this year. Its a straight one mile track starting from a dead stop. Anybody know the best rear gear ratio to maximize my speed in 5th gear?
I have a 99 camaro ss with 17 inch rims and a 6 spd. I have a few bolt ons but nothing big.

Run the stock ratio. With just bolt ons, I can tell you from running it a few times, you won't hit more than 145. Bolt on new 5.0's run roughly 150. All unless you spray. A few years back there was a stocking LT1 Camaro that ran just over 150 w/ spray.

your cars an SS so it has a few factory bolt ons above what a z28 would and you added some more but didnt give specifics.
bolt on cars short of full bolt ons usually trap 110-113ish then you have 3/4 of a mile left to gain mph but gains get lesser the faster you go for example a 112 trapping car probably trapped 87 at the 1/8 gaining 25 mph in the second half , I think it will gain another 35 or so mph in that "extra" 3/4 mile.
my guess upper 140's on this armchair guessers calculator lol.
Which brings your rear gear question - I dont think you run out of gear in 5th until 4.11's maybe.... , I agree with 3.8 redbird 3.73 or 3.90 wouldnt be a problem for sure

I think I have 4.11s in there now and I did 151. I was hitting the rev limiter in 5th gear just before the mile mark. Do you think 3.73s are optimal for the mile or will I do better with 3.42s? Its a mostly stock ss with 6spd and headers.

You may do a lil better with 3.90s but if you were hitting the limiter just before the end you may drop off. Similar to redlining at the end of the 1/4 mile. you want just at top speed at the finish which is sounds like you are close too.
More power will be needed to replicate the 151 with 3.42s or 3.73s.
