Question 00 f-body rearend width

I have read several threads on here about guys using rears narrowed three inches per side. Is there a reason for this other than appearances ?? Has anyone tried one or two inches narrower ?? Will be taking the nine inch plunge soon and am searching for info. Thanks

I just did mine narrowed 2.5" per side. Gives you the deeper dish on the wheels, slightly less weight and possibly stronger axels.

The bad part is you need to buy new wheels with the correct offset. I went with a 5.5 inch BS it should tuck the tires in 1/2" when it's all said and done.

Just depends on what you want and your budget.

Thanks for the reply. What size wheel/tire combo did you use? I was looking at using a 30" diameter tire around 10 to 12 inches wide. I realize I will need new wheels. Trying to find out what works before spending $$$.

10" wheel with 295/55/15 MT My car is lowered so I didn't want to try much more than that.
