3.90 Gear Question!
What's up guys. So all of my mods are in my sig and I am happy with what my mods are putting out, but I want to do some more to the car before I cam it or do any other serious mods. Running stock my gear ratio is 3.42 and I get some serious downfall in 4th gear which I really want to get rid of with 3.90 gears. So just a couple questions.
1. I was quoted ~$875 for gears, install, and a tune, is this a good price?
2. Is this really going to be worth the $875 and do you think I will notice a difference from the stock 3.42 gears?
Thanks to anyone in advance!

Deffinatly a nice increase in torque. But the motive 3.90 will most likely whine a little. I had mine done and I get a little whine between 45-60 after that it completely disapears. I'm very happy with the performance of them though

I love my 3.90s like said you may get a little whine on decel from them being made of a harder alloy but it really isn't that noticeable. I was looking at 4.10s but after driving the 3.90s I feel the 4.10s would be a little short on the street. Also the 3.90s use a larger pinion so they are also a little stronger

I've had both the Motive 3.90s and the 4.10s. Started with the 3.90s, broke a pinion after 30,000 miles and replaced it with the 4.10s. For the entire time I had the 3.90s I thought I made the right decision, however after going with the 4.10s I wish I would've done it sooner!
Will you notice a difference from the 3.42s? Absolutely.
With a 6-speed, don't let the fear of decreased gas mileage have much impact on your decision. The difference seems nominal.
3.90 vs. 4.10. They're both a nice improvement over stock. The 4.10s are tighter on the street however it is nice to ALWAYS be able to be in the right part of the powerband with a downshift. With my setup, I found the 3.90s had a little bit of a lull when dropping down to 3rd and 4th on the highway. That gap does not exist with the 4.10s.
My 3.90s whined a bit in the 60 - 70 mph range. The 4.10s are still settling in and the only whine I have right now is on decel.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to your personal preferences and what your plans are with mods. I was happy with my 3.90s and am even more pleased with the 4.10s so I would think either would feel like a nice improvement.
