10 Bolt Problem?
Last night I was in the process of removing the diff/carrier in order to install a 4.10. As I took it out, I noticed it was in 2 pieces! Surprisingly, I've never had issues with vibrations anywhere within 0-120 mph. The only thing was a weird sound whenever I would powerslide left (but not right).
Question: What exactly is the problem with the 10 bolt? Is there some problem with the design of the parts (ring, pinion, axles, Torsen centerpiece)? Or is it a problem that the materials for the parts are weak? OR is it actually a problem/weakness with the housing itself?
Oh, and when you say "The 10 Bolt is weak!" - is my picture an example of that? I don't have any metal pieces flying around or anything. The inside of the housing is clean, and the ring gear is clean too. Haven't taken out the pinion to really check yet, but I don't see large pieces inside the housing or on the magnet.

I've seen posts of that happening before. The problem with the 10 bolt is everything is just too small, I've read that the design originates with the Chevy Monza from the '70s. Sorry the cost of your project just doubled.
In your sig, you ran slower with your cutout open??

Oh, and yeah, with the cutout open I did run slower. That was before the tune though, and they tuned it with it open (because it's now stuck open, lol!). Haven't been to the track since the tune.
