I abused the living hell out of my 12 bolt moser and it never flinched with my 6 speed and never made any noise. Was in there for 5 years with a cammed 6 liter on gas and now is in my 86 TA still doing work.

Saw a ton of track time and every weekend getting beaten.

Well, the damn thing sure overcame the hard launches much easier than defeating the ability to come off the clutch at well over 6000 RPM that is totally unnatural.

Yup, cannot say for certain but I thought the power loss went 12 bolt, 9" and then 60. But it has been so long I would not be surprised if I was wrong.

Great article. Nice to actually see some hard data comparing the three rears on the same car.

Great article is right. I'm pretty much sold on a 12 bolt at this point. My question now is the Strange 33 spline or Moser with Wavetrac 35?

I vote strange, they seem to make a really solid product. Is that the S-trac?

Doesn't say on the website. The only differentials for 12 bolt Strange sells separately are the Yukon HD.... never used them.

Im a bit biased but I really love my s60 with the s-trac. It was very easy to install and is very quiet. Although it is heavy, Carl at CRP told me it wouldn't slow me down any.

The main reason I bought my s60 was because it was a great price and I got it through Carl. He stopped selling the 12 bolt before I bought my rear, but if he still did I wouldn't have thought twice about buying one. The 12 bolt is a very stout rear and there's many single digit cars running them.

Thats the way i remember that test goin to.

My fab 9 is only about 10lb heavier than my 10bolt was. But have the aluminum center and the mwc tq arm is lighter than stock to.

If built certain ways we can get the MWC 9" lighter than a stock 10-bolt and over all weight differences is where your going to see gains than in the slight differences in power train loss.

All things equal between a stamped nine inch, stamped 12-bolt, or stamped S-60 will show zero differences at the track on your average vehicle. Start removing weight out of the vehicle and you will start to see gains faster.

For sure MWC2....if one want to do drilled axles, lightened ring gear and a spool a fab 9 could easily be lighter than a 10bolt. Mine is basic street car **** with a aluminum center.

As far as at the track I went from a 131.3 mph best trap with the 10bolt to a best trap of 130.4 with the fab 9.....but I have been quicker on the fab 9 and I can drive it to the track now with no worries. I also think with a better tire there is more et left that the 10bolt just could not achieve.

8.8 is another option. Cheaper than all 3 and can be as strong as a 12 bolt from what I've read.

An 8.8 is the same as a 12 bolt, same ring gear size and uses the exact same bearings internally.

An 8.8 has it's place but like many other housings it shows it's age with abuse a lot faster than others. That's a reason guys with fast fox body chassis eventually move on to a 9" of some sort. They go through gears yearly even all braced up.

Not really all that cheap either, unless you have mad fabrication skills and can put one together on your own. The hawks 8.8 is like 3k out the door...
