Where to buy 3.73 and install kit
Hey guys I have a 2000 z28 a4 3.23 rear and am looking to upgrade to 3.73 gears, I have been through the forums trying to find the right company to go with but I keep reading a lot of differing opinions, I drive the car mostly on the street with maybe one or two visits to the track a season, car is making 440 at the wheels currently and I am planning on doing a rebuild kit when I do the gears but wasn't sure if anyone sold a kit that came with 3.73 gears and a kit?

Orange box motives are more likely to whine in my experience. You want GM75410 blue box gears. Ive always used motive and ratech rebuild kits with good luck.

Blackfbird , If it were me I would use the aam (American axle manufacture) gears . They are the oem gear manufacture for gm gears . Every set I had installed is quiet as a mouse with good pattern . Most aftermarket gears I had installed had some kind of gear noise , Some worse than others . Blue box motive was the lesser evil of the aftermarket gear for me .
I just went thru the gear noise thing with the motive orange box for a 12 bolt gm . AAM did not make a gear for the 12 bolt . Had no choice but to go aftermarket . Noisy as hell .

dont mean to sound naive but are the yukon gears the same thing as aam? i have heard about aam but have had a hard time trying to find 3.73 in those for the 10 bolt

The gear for yours is listed as a 7.6 Part # 40020428 aam . Search this part # AAM and see what you can find .
This is a correction from my early post . I had my thought all wrong this morning

Unless you are installing the gears yourself, I would purchase the ring and pinion FROM the shop doing the work.
My point? If you supply the gears, and they cannot get them to mesh correctly, IT IS ON YOU, if you purchase the gears from them and they do not mesh, IT IS ON THEM.
Sara (2001 Z28) went from 3.23 to 3.73:1 gears (purchased through the shop), and the shop could not get them to stop whining, so they had to install the second set on their dime.
Also consider having the gears "Cryod" for extra strength.
