Default bent axle flanges from pressing wheel studs

Hey guys, has anyone seen this happen before? I noticed a wobble in my drivers side rear wheel after removing the axles and having my friend press in longer ARP wheel studs so i could mount my new Weld pro stars on with the shank style lugs. I put the rear in the air and pulled both wheels off and placed it in drive, you could see a warp in the axle flange the whole rotor and wheel mounting flange oscillated back and forth as it rotated. Luckily I have my old 10 bolt with mint axles but I'm trying to understand why it happened so it doesn't happen again.. I'm thinking my possibilities are:
  • Improper support of the axle when pressing in the studs, causing the flange to bend.
  • Improper torquing of the shank style lug nuts when mounting the pro stars on.
  • knurl on the studs too thick and causing the bend when pressed in?

Both sides are bent, however drivers side more so. I don't want to press the studs into my other pair of axles and have the same thing happen again..

x2 on option 1. I use a thick steel tube around the wheel stud when pressing them in to make sure that the flange is supported as close as possible to the stud to minimize the possibility of bending the flange.

replaced the axles the other night and pressed the studs in properly myself. No more bent flanges. Be careful pressing wheel studs in fellas!
