My 8.8 build Update 2/18 it's in

The guy in Oklahoma on FB that builds these 8.8's does it for a hell of a lot cheaper than what you've posted t-raven. He's built something like 26+ and all are holding together like a champ. These have been built for all kinds of cars, even turbo cars making 900+ rwhp and launching hard on the street and on the track. If I were to go with an 8.8, I'd have him do it.

Looks like a solid rear. Did he (TNT) powdercoat it for you? When I broke my 10 bolt, I had to get it back on the road asap, so I went with a 9" with 35 spline axles and do not regret spending $3300 one bit. Hoping everything hold up for you.

How is my math fuzzy? I took the numbers right out of the OP. He could've done it cheaper, but those are the parts he bought and the labor and shipping he paid for. He spent $2400. I didn't add any of the non axle parts he bought.
If that's what he wants then great. I'm not saying he did the wrong thing, I was just comparing the cost of the two and asking why he chose what he did.
A toque arm would only be an added expense if you couldn't make your current one fit. People have made both stock and aftermarket ones work with a 9" so I don't see it as an absolute necessity.

He got what he wanted and has the peace of mind of all new parts though, so I'm not saying he should've done anything different.

Thats interesting I had to do the same exact for mine. And every once in a while I'll hit a bump and hear a huge thud coming from the right side of the rear end hitting something (probably my exhaust pipe).

=$2418.18. Pricing a complete 9" with LSD is around $2800, not sure if that's shipped or not. You can buy a housing and axle package for $1200, and all the parts to assemble the center section for around $1500. So about $2700 to assemble it yourself, which is what he did here with his 8.8".
I was just curious what his reasoning was.
I pulled a 4.10, limited slip axle at a pick-n-pull for $180. If it were 28 spline I'd just reuse my 10 bolt axles, but since it's 31 I'll buy new axles and might as well switch to 9" housing ends while I'm at it. I'll have about $700 in it but that's with factory gears and diff and doing the welding myself. If I were going to replace everything and pay for fab work, I'd rather just buy a 9", but if the OP got what he wants and is happy with it, then that's all that matters.

I thought it was $700 to weld, not 760?
I don't need ARPs for it. But if I was at that power level, I would agree with you and go a 9"
Freight is going to be $100+ even on a 9" too.
Its about $800 ish or cheaper then a 9", specially when you factor in another 200-400 for a torque arm.
suppose it depends on your goals. my daily wont even see more then 500 ish. so its fine for me. if I was planning on 700-1k hp, id opt for the 9"

Seems like Im in mine for about $1300 total using the stock Ford 3.73 gears that came in the 8.8 and my 10 bolt that was free. I re used the LSD but ordered new carbon clutches and spider gears to freshen things up. I re used the original pinion bearings, carrier bearings, and shims with no issues. New 10 bolt axle bearings and seals. Not bad to safely run mid 10's and be very quiet on the street. BTW the rear had 191k miles on it when the donor vehicle was wrecked and still no problems with the used parts. I have taken it on 200 mile cruises and with the magnaflow catback i cant hear any gear whine.
