Default Sticky tires and the stock 10 bolt

I need some opinions... I'm installing nitrous on my car and I'm going to need a good sticky tire. I have heard great things about the MT drag radials, I looked at a set yesterday, very nice... But here is my question... With the stock 10 bolt I was told that a tire with a wrinkle wall like the MT Sportsman Pro would not be as hard on the rear, and that wheel hop is more likely with the radial tire because of the hard sidewall. I have used the Sportsman Pros on a 5.0 Mustang I had, and loved them, and used the BFG DR's on my last Formula (M6) and snapped two sets of gears (4.10's). Wheel hop off the line one of those times... So which way should I go... I'm wanting the rear to last at least until the end of next year. The car sees the track probably once every other month and is driven to and from work (less than 800 milles a month).

Thanks

If you want it to last then dont take the car to the track and try to hook with sticky tires.... that right there is asking to break a rearend..... 10 bolts are crap..... my .02 is dont even try it..

I agree with that. Your 10 bolt will Wait on the spray and tires and get a stronger rear first.

I understand that the 10 bolt is a POS... I've blown a few in another car...I guess what I'm asking is which tire would be worse for the rear? A tire with a hard sidewall with the possibilty of wheel hop or a tire that has give in the sidewall with less of a chance for wheel hop? I'm told wheel hop is terrible for the rear. I'm not at the track that much and will not be sprayin' out of the hole and do not have a converter (yet!). I've seen many guys on the board running low 11's with a stock 2.73 rear. What kind of tires are you guys running?

Well in that case, I would go with something with a harder sidewall. Wheel hop may be bad for the rear end and lower it's life, but if you hook really solid on something with a soft sidewall, that could be the only launch you get out of that rear end.

with an A4, i wouldn't worry about breaking the rear if i were you, have some faith. I've been running mine with 3.42s, vig3600 and 125 shot of nitrous off the line, on BFGs for a few months with no problems. Running low 11's with 1.6x 60fts. I personally love the BFGs.

Wheel hop kills diffs. I'm running ET Streets, 3.23's, ST3500 and 3 years later the diff is still together. Just stop the wheel hop, ie LCA's w/brackets, airbag, shocks, etc.
mind you my car is not bottle fed.

I have bunches of passes on my 10 bolt with 3:73's and ET drags. 1.6 60's. My rear is fine. My 4l60e is another story. :boom:
