Default Stock 10 bolt

How much abuse can the stock 10 bolt take? With the stock gears (3.42's) and Nitto 555r's? Can it handle launching @ 3k - 4k RPMs?

What about clutch? Will getting a spec stage 3 clutch help the rear end grannade faster then the stock one did?

Is it true that the stock 3.42s dont go out as easy as say 3.73 or 4.11?

If you start reading posts on this, you will see that some 10 bolts last and last, and some fail very rapidly. Stock axles twist and break, sometimes. Spider gears, ring gears sometimes fail. Carriers crack. Pinions move from improper aftermarket gear install. It all depends on: M6 or Auto, abuse by driver (ex.: sidestep clutch at over 4k rpm), fluid change schedule, whether or not you've installed a girdle cover and studbolt kit, and lastly YOUR LUCK. WJ

When i bought 4.10s for my T/A the guy at LS1 SPEED asked me first thing,"Do you plan on hitting the track alot?"He said if so I was just wasting my money and time on the factory (S-10) rear end.The aftermarket axles and the girdle covers will only pro long the inevitable He recommended the obvious choices 12 bolt or 9 inch.Good luck with whatever you decide.
