Default Upgrading gears-change ring and pinion only?

I'm going to replace the ring&pinion, along with the cover and bearings. I'm going from a 2.73 to a 3.73 or 3.42. Do I need anything else in the way of parts, aside from reprogramming the computer?

I recommend replacing all of your bearings in the rear end while its apart.... not much more work

Look for the RAtech deluxe install kit.... thunder racing has it... even includes axle bearings

Yep exactly what Spork said. I just put 4.10's in my car last weekend and bought that exact kit from Thunder. It has everything from shims, to the crush sleeve, to all the bearings, etc etc. It's a complete kit. Even includes new bolts for your ring as well.

Just a tip, make sure you remember that the bolts on the ring gear are REVERSE thread. Lefty tighty, Righty loosey. I would have been there for days if someone hadn't told me that.

It depends on how many miles are on the vehicle.

I had my gears swapped out @ 4K origional miles, I did not need the carrier bearings replaced.

You will need gears made for the 2 series carrier unless you are changing the carrier out too. I bought the thick gears(3.73) from thunder racing that were made for 2 series carriers and they work great. No noise at all.
