Yes. The only difference between them are 3 channel (sensor on top of differential) for non traction controlled cars and 4 channel (sensors at the ends of axles) for traction controlled cars.

Camaros & Firebirds use the same as did V6 & V8s. THe only difference you may find between models are the actual gear ratios. I believe A4s had 2.73's and T56s had 3.42s. THere were also some models with 3.23's.

3rd gen F bodys rears are nearly identical except they are a little more narrower than the 4th gens.

Why would you pick one up from a dealer? You can usually find them on here or your local junk yard for <$300.

V-8 cars
A-4s had 2.73s or 3.23 (optional)
M-6 Had 3.42s

V-6 cars
A-4 had 3.08s M-5 had 3.23s
Optional performance ratio 3.42

Door codes:
GU2 = 2.73
GU4 = 3.08
GU5 = 3.23
GU6 = 3.42

Not many V-6s came with Optional ratio or Limited slip!

you say that the v-6ers came with only a 2.73s or 3.23s? wow, the rearend that was in my v6 had 3.42s(a4), the rear that came in my totaled 98z had 3.23s. the only difference between them was the v6 had drum brakes and no posi, where the z had discs and a posi.

your car has the Y87 performance option. 3.42s and a posi. Also, what type of brakes it had is more dependant on what year it was, not what engine it had.

No, V6 rear's arent the same as V8 rears, but they are interchangeable

When I bought my 99SS it didnt take me long to find out that the previouse owner put in a v6 rear. It was a one wheel peel and had 3.08s. I had killer killer gas mpg out of it and I was unstopable on the highway. Hahahaha But with that one wheel peel Iwas smoldering off that poor tire any time Id get into it.
In some ways, I kinda miss that 3.08, even though the 4.11`s made it way faster.
