Need help with bearing install
I just replaced my rear wheel bearings with Timken bearings(trp1563tav). The problem is I cannot install the c-clips because the axle does not slide far enough in. The bearing and seal are one piece and they stick out of the axle tube a 1/8 of an inch. The instructions say to leave a quarter inch of the bearing outside the tube but when you do that you cannot even see the grove to slide the c-clip into. I got it down to a 1/8 of an inch but only half of the c-clip goes in. I don't think I can get the bearing any further in, I'm using a 10lb sledge with a seal installer. Anyone had any luck installing this bearing?

thats what i was going to say but that wouldnt explain you getting them out. I have never seen a bearing with a seal affixed to it. Mine has a seal and a seperate roller bearing, where did you get them from?

Are you using a saver bearing? (like the one on the left)

I take it you requested a saver bearing cause you have a worn axle then?
Did you drop the bearing down the axle shaft before installing it to make sure it was correct?
Is the new bearing/seal flush against the housing or does it stick out a little?

I just asked for a bearing and a seal and they gave me the saver bearing. I did try the new bearing on the axle before hand and it seemed to be fine. The bearing/seal sticks out 1/8 of an inch. I'm think I'm gonna go to Kragen and pick up the original style bearing with seperate seal.

Not sure why they gave you a saver bearing if you didn't ask for one
They're usually only used when the axle is worn to the point where it has excessive play on the standard bearing....
Regardless, it should be flush with the axle tube, so it's either the wrong one or it needs to be pounded in further....

Einstein at the parts counter thought he was doing me a favor by selling me the "kit". I yanked the saver bearings out and returned them for the correct seals & bearings and they installed smoothly. Wasted two hours, 1 6" clamp and a couple of pieces to my seal installer kit trying to make the saver bearings fit. Thanks for all who replied.

the only thing wrong is exactly what the op is talking about, axles wont go in far enough to get the c clips in. And if you do get them in, i heard its a bitch if you ever have to get them back out.
edit: disregard, for a second i forgot i was searching through old threads.
