Why do you need a 9 inch? You're not gonna break a 12 bolt that's set up right... and even if you do break the Eaton, just get a spool, it comes in 4 channel and It's lighter / less reciprocating mass too.
Only reason I see to go with a 9 inch is for changing gear sets with ease.
My Strange 12 bolt has never done me wrong.

I am looking to go with strange in about a month. I have an M6, but I didnt want to go with the 9" because of the drivetrain loss. I am looking at Strange's new S60 rear end. Thats a really nice rear end. Only thing is, is that it requires a different length driveshaft. But I think I can almost buy a brand new denny's DS, with the amount you can sell an LS1 aluminum one.

I'm switching to a Moser 9 inch and weight is a concern, I have all my parts and have weighed all but will not have a whole weight till I paint the housing. I killed a set of 4.56 gears and a Eaton HD posi before going to a spool and pro gears. I hate not driving my car on the street so I need a rear diff thats brutally strong so when I build my big motor (N/A 346 M6 now) I'll have the driveline covered.

I had great experience with a new Strange 3.73 behind an A4 with about 400 rwhp
If you choose 12 bolt - I liked the Strange tq arm thru bolts over the Moser tapped pad. Plus the ABS sensor was installed with a wire ready
- not on a Moser
little things sold me and I was pleased
I'm straight to 9" this time tho - ABS is over rated now that mine has been broken - I don't miss it

honestly....with a strange 12 bolt, you don't have to modify anything or very little compared to moser....its worth it....if you notice, when buying suspension parts it'll say....will fit with stock or strange 12 bolt....will not work with moser.

I've had my Strange for almost 2 years and as far as a good, direct bolt in with minimal mods, its very good...I did have to shim my calipers outward a hair to center them over the rotors...The main complaint is the gear set up is a little noisey for my tastes...But that will change shortly when I install a set of 4.10s and a spool...The Eaton should come standard with 800lb springs which I thought it did, but doesn't and my Eaton is headed south...It still handles my 1.55 60's but its a bit its time to install my spool and stop fooling around...All in all I give it an 8 out of 10...
