Question gears(daily driver)

would 4.10's be o.k. if my m6 (01 TA)is my daily driver and I drive 5 hr trips every 2-3 months, or would 3.73's be better? I know this question is always asked but I really need the opinions, and I couldn't find the same ? on the forum. Also do I need the master install kit or not? Thanks

3.73s is the best for a daily driver and good for the highway, but if dont drive alot then i would go with 4.10s.

I have had 4.10's since 2002. 6th gear is 2100 rpm @ 75 mph, and 1800 rpm @ 65 mph. What highway mpg I lost I gained back through an off road y-pipe and a ECM tune.

I also drove it for 2+ years in the SF bay area a couple days a week....in traffic. But then, I love runnin' through the gears, so this has never been an issue. The quicker feeling of the car has always been more important to me.

maybe consider a set of 3.90's? that'll give you a significant boost from the stock 3.42's and retain highway mileage better than 4.10's.

I vote 3.73s. I love mine on the highway. There are times when I wish I had some more gear...but not that often. Cruising on the turnpike at 75 is so nice. Of course, my other car to compare it to is my Jeep Cherokee with 33" tires and 4.56 gears. haha. Thats a fun ride.

I daily drove my TA for years with 4:10s. My gas milaege was not affected much at all. Less than 1mpg highway max. City stayed the same. Overall I didn't losen even 1 whole mpg. Those that say get 3:73 must not have ever had 4:10s. Dont let gas milaege be a concern. Get the 4:10s.

My gear swap

I went with 3.73s in my DD, i like it. Im sure i would have liked 4.10s, too, but 3.73s are a good choice if you wanna do gears.

I daily drive my car with 4.10s and love it. Didn't even notice a change in gas usage during the week. I've taken it home a few times and it did the 4 and a half hour drive just fine.

I chose 373 because 410's are even smaller...much smaller......could barely see them..needed high-power glasses in fact.....
