Default Gear/Stall Questions!

I currently have 2.73's and I'm going to get a stall soon. I'm looking at a 2800-3200. Is it beneficial to install lower gears (higher numerically) and is it really going to make much of a difference. I know it will make a huge difference in torque and launching without the stall but with a stall does it really matter?

Next question - I have had a set of GM Motive 3.42's - part #G875342 sitting in my closet for a year now but I was told they won't fit as I need a "thick ring" since I have a 2-series carrier.. I guess there's no way around this? Any suggestions?

get a 2500-3000 rpm stall, Yank, or Vigi,as for gears, id look for a rear end with either 3.23's, 3.42's or 3.73's as long as its low milage you would prob be better off.

Ok well next question.. How do I go about putting 3-series gears in my 2-series carrier? Do I have to get "thick" gears?

To get the 3 series gears to fit in the 2 series carrier but you need the ring gear spacer like you said which is like $60 but some people say not to use it.

I went from 2.73 to 3.73 using the 2 series specific gears which are the "thick" ones, and I'm happy with it. It does suck down more gas though, but I'm sure that alot to do with the stall too.
