Which rear end would best suit my needs?
I am about ready for that new rear end that all f-body owners must eventually buy. As of rigtht now, I plan on getting a new M9 Moser from EPP (I'll probably drive up there to get them to put it in as well). I do mostly road course and auto-x stuff and a lot of street blasts, but my car really doesn't see that much quarter mile time. Right now on motor alone with only 87 octane, my car makes about 450 rwhp and 415 rwtq (off nitrous on a Mustang dyno). I plan on installing an F1 Procharger at some point as well and will probably be making over 800 rwhp at that point so I must keep that in mind as well. I need the strength of the 9", but also must try and save a little weight. The guy I talked to from EPP suggested the optional back brace for the M9 to add some strength, but was not sure if I could use my Strano sway bar with it since the u bolts would no longer fit. They have an optional weld on bracket set for the BMR Xtreme sway bar, but I don't know if they will fit up with my 22mm Strano bar.
I hate locker rear ends on the street. I know they usually recommend the locker for that kind of power, but I have seen a lot of guys using true tracks all the way up to 1,000 rwhp. This car sees a lot of street driving as well.
As for the gear set, I currently have 3.73s. I'm thinking of going to 3.89s but I'm just not sure what will be the best for the road course with the Procharger setup. If I do change to another set, it will probably be just a bit higher or lower, not a drastic change.

I do highly recommend the backbrace for the kind of horsepower you will be making.
I don't see why your Strano sway bar couldn't be used.
I'd either go with a spool or a locker for the horsepower level you will be at. The Truetrac and it's 31 spline axles may not hold up. Since you're talking also about road course use, the locker and 35 spline axles seems like the way to go to me, regardless of the evils that the locker brings with it. It is hard to compromise at this horsepower level.
I'd also suggest 3.70 gears, especially if you are running a shorter height tire. Bob

It's been a while since I first started this thread, but I must bring it back from the dead because as of today, my rear end officially started to slip. I plan on installing either a Vortech YSi or F1 Procharger and making somewhere around 800-900rwtrq. I need a good strong rear end that will be able to take corners for my road racing and frequent street use. As I said before, I really don't like the idea of running a locker so I might just take my chances with the Truetrac. I have been giving some thought to running a Dana 60 as well, but I want to make sure that it is nice and compatible with the kind of suspension setup I want. This car was not built for the quarter so extremely hard launches won't really be a factor. Also, are the LCA relocation brackets in any way useful for handling or are they mostly for helping with launches?

Personally, if your wanting to do more cornering and auto xing than drag racing i would probably shy away from getting a rear with a back brace, because then you couldnt use the new watts link that is now available for our cars. And from what i understand it is MUCH better than the phb setup that we currently have. Just a thought.

For your application you're going to want to keep as much weight out of the back of the car as possible. A Dana 60 for road racing would be taking a step backwards in my opinion. Bob

Have you contacted midwest chassis about your needs? They do a lot of custom, one off stuff and eric seems very well informed and like a very nice guy. Maybe they could shed some light on the corner carving and what not.
I have a rear getting put together by them right now hopefully..
