It's around what I figured it would be, with chevy being just below average. What else doesn't impress me is toyota being at the bottom. I've been telling people that those are over hyped POS's for years.

What really impresses me is FORD. I knew that they really worked hard recently to improve their quality rating, but I didn't know that the only cars that were better were double and triple the price of an average Ford.

How can the industry average have more manufactures below than above? Shouldn't it be in the middle of the list? If you average the numbers there the average should be 126.5

I assume the average is based on volume of each manufacturer. So total # of problems/total vehicles. Then they list it by # of problems per manufacturer.

You know whats really funny? Hyundai is near the top. For a cheap car and alot of bang for you buck they do pretty good on charts. Chevrolet dont surprise me much at all anymore. Out of the last 10 GM's I have owned there has only been 2 of them that didnt give me much hassle. My 2002 z28 was great and my 88 caprice. All the rest frankly have been riddled with little annoying problems but nothing major (internals, etc..). My Caprice rolled the odo 3 times and only needed its oil changed every 3k miles.

I thought that too but they are basing it on problems per 100 vehicles so volume shouldn't be a factor. But then 109 problems per 100 vehicles is average which doesn't make sense.

Yes but Chevrolet has a bigger influence on the average than porsche, because they make a lot more cars. The average works the same whether you divide it by the actual # of cars or the number of cars/100 as they do. Really, the average is 1.09 problems per car, but they say 109 per 100 cars because it is somewhat easier to understand.

Average is different than median. Get a math book, look it up.
