new mustang gt faster than new camaro and challenger?
I'm surprised more people arn't talking about that new 400hp engine going into the new stangs and f150. With it's weight, won't it be the 1st mustang GT that's potentially faster than the camaro, and the challenger stock?
There are now some spy shots of the engine out there as well.

I still think the Camaro will take it. Be pretty close though.
After how many years--the Mustang gets an engine (the 5.4L S/C excepted) It looks pretty impressive though.
As for the truck---I doubt it will be 400HP--detuned HP for better low end I bet.

The BIG question is will Fords motor respond to mods like the LS3 and L99 will? I doubt it....we have already proven typical gains of 70HP or so on a cam only swap.. Thats money in the bank. A good motor isnt worth **** to me if I cant turn up the wick!

Bench racing aside......I think a 400ish hp 5.0 will at least make the Mustang more respectable, especially if it stays in the same weight range that it is now. I won't start a messy fued on how it will compare to the new SS, but I can tell you that it will definitely push the Challenger into third place.
I'm just wondering how long it will take before these get mounted up to the new Mustangs:

I'm glad Ford isn't resting on its laurels with the S197s, they seem to be actually trying to stay competitive performance wise this time around.

So you guys think that a 3500ish lb 400hp Mustang will still get slaughtered by a 400-422hp 3800-3900 lb Camaro? I know that variables like tranny specs (which aren't known for this 5.0 Mustang), gearing, torque curves, and factory radials all come into this kind of comparison along with HP/torque figures, but I see such a Mustang being a very good race for the new SS. And YES, I'm talking about stock for stock here.

The current 4.6 is staying on board for the 2010 model year. The new 5.0 and TT sixxer are being proposed for the 2011 models.

This 5.0 Stang could very well beat the SS Camaro. If it does I bet GM throws DI on the LS3 for the 2012 year model to edge it out the five oh stang. But this is from the factory.
A LS3 with a good sized cam and bolt ons would destroy a full bolt on 5.0 stang w/o a power adder. The LS series Camaro will still walk the Modular version 2 mustangs in naturally aspirated competition. Just to clarify the 6.2 boss motor will not be offered in a Mustang.

I'm not here to try and tout this as the new Camaro killer, because for one...it isn't official, yet. Secondly, no one knows how such a Mustang will run (I'm just citing what current model GT's are running with a SOHC layout and less displacement). Thirdly, this new 5.0 is supposed to be a much more advanced design than the 3V 4.6. So who knows just how far it'll go. But I think it's safe to say that it'll go alot further than the current 300hp GT........and fast enough to be competition for the new Camaro.
FWIW, I'd be more concerned about Ford sticking that twin turbo ecoboost motor into the Mustang. 340-355hp stock, and modibility out the ***. All for less than 28K.

Poor Ford. Their 5.4 is getting raped by the 6.2 GM and 5.7 Toyota. They need the boss 6.2 in that market to compete. Im sure it will good for at least 450/425.

Their 5.4 never was really all that great, and it didn't really get improved upon as time went on. I think even the current crop of 4.6 motors are better. It was time for it to go. At least they're making moves to get competitive again. From what I understand, the new 5.0 is supposed to take over duty for the 4.6 and the 6.2 is supposed to take over duty for the 5.4....IIRC.
