Jesus.

All this extra weight....20"rims, 14" rotors with brembos, IRS and 6 airbags tend to make a car heavier. Plus the car is bigger.

Do you really care about a 1% chance more of being seriously injured in an accident at 40mph?

You do know they have no sort of control in these tests. They take the car and smash it once. Thats it. Ive said it before. Real scientific.

They have a saftey warning on my 03 explorer for side impacts because the door became unhinged on the 1 and only time they smashed it.

Myth busters does better studies than these guys.

According to them your safer as a passenger in 1992 camaro with no airbag then you are in a 2010 camaro with 3 airbags to protect you. Im not buying that.

After seeing that one that was obliterated in a front-end crash not that long ago yet the whole passenger compartment was totally intact - heck the doors still fit right - I'm not really all that concerned about it.

You know, if they'd just build all cars with full tube chassis and 5-point harnesses we wouldn't have to hear about stupid **** like that...

Do they really only do 1 car? I can't believe that, there is no way you can get any consistency like that. That is interesting. Still, I expected it to get 5 stars considering the Mustang and Challenger did. It can't be that hard to achieve.

OK what i'm saying though is that they were so proud of all this time they spent engineering the new body and using all these new high strength steel frame parts, inturn adding all this weight and they can't get the highest rating? I love the car and Gm but they just keep kicking them selves in the ***.

And I did not know that they only used on car, i thought they used more then one per crash test rating. I think that they are making these new cars to safe. People are starting to think that they are indestructible in these cars and therefore driving like idiots.

Just keep in mind that the 5th star would add at least another 500 lbs.

Im with ss1129 on this one. I have known for years there is only ever one car for the test. Plus they crash it in a controlled env? It is bs how they rate these cars. Why don't they go on the real road where semis roll over cars and people drive off bridges and drive through their houses? I agree myth busters are more productive than the "experts." The little tiny euro cars are supposed to be safe. Do you believe that? I hope not.

Just as a side note when they crashed the grand am back in the day they gave the alero the same rating and didn't test it. Same platform right so it doesn't make any difference. Great work "experts." Not trying to start a war here, but come on they have never gotten and never will get real world data. The companies themselves which I wouldn't trust do a better job.

Don't insurance companies use this data in some small way?

All that weight. I thought it would get 6 stars.

LMFAO i don't give a **** about the safety rating of a sports car. If people are concerned about having a 5 star over a 4 star, they should be looking at a minivan..

Man, I can just see it now.. Camaro and mustang line up at a stoplight and share revs. Light turns green, camaro obliterates the stang. Both get stopped at the next light. Mustang guy looks over and then says "oh yeah, well I have a 5 star safety rating!" Good for you there bud yank yank

from the videos i can clearly see why it only made 4 stars. these cars dont appear to give in and crumple as much as the 4th gen cars did in a wreck. leading to you taking more of the force in a wreck. looks like the side impact ratings are damn good as the 4th gens didnt have much of one.
