I'll be the first to say that it isn't the best idea trying to make payments on a car while in college. That being said, I'm currently 18 and making payments on my camaro while at college haha. While college would be a whole lot easier without having to worry about having the money for car payments, I wouldn't trade my camaro for anything. As far as paying for it goes, I have an on campus job that I get 20hrs a week and thats just enough for the payment, insurance, gas, and a little left over. I do have it easy when it comes to insurance though. Since I still have my first vehicle ( a 91' mitsubishi mighty max) as my current driver, and the camaro under my dad as a "pleasure" vehicle, the insurance on the camaro is only $65/month and my pickup is $95/month. Thats a whole lot cheaper then the $300/month that I could find for the camaro under me. And definately do not pay for it with your student loans, if you use that money, you'll just need to come up with it again when tuition or books are due. All in all, it's not something thats easy, or that I recommend, but it is possible.

I went to the Unversity if Cincinnati from 1982-1987 and had two different T/As: a 77 smokey & the Bandit and a 79 T/A 400 4spd. I worked thirty hours a week and lived with my brother in an apartment. I never had any money, but I wanted to drive a nice car. I lived on frozen pizza and mac & cheese. I could have lived a lot better w/o a car payment, but I had no interest in driving some little **** car.

Nine Ball said something that stuck in my head, so I'll paraphrase it 'find out what you want, what you need to get it, and do it', thats it.
I'm in college, for what has seemed like forever and still manage to afford my car, insurance, and all the stuff I do to it. If you want something, go after it.

It's called sacrifice...somewhere along the line, you will give up something else to have the car sitting in your garage. I paid off my $18,100 2002 SS over 3 years starting freshman year (2004). This does not include insurance OR MODIFICATIONS which totaled about $15000 when all was said and done...I used 0% interested CC's to build a nice credit rating on some parts, did not miss payments, and worked my *** off when not in the class. I do not remember a day during those three years I did not stress about money though...it was tough.
Now that the car is gone, and my DD Ford Ranger is paid for, I am not a slave to payments anymore. I can also take a day off from work when I want and I do not have to worry that I can't make payments which is like taking a 1000 pound weight of my chest.
Would I do it again, HELL YES, but after college when you can really build a fun project car and not stress about it as much...
That was my experience at least.
I am a senior, and 2009 will be my 5th year of college...mainly because I only took 3 classes a semester in order to work to afford the car...

I was able to pay for my camaro and insurance in college/grad school (twice over) while still playing basketball for my school and being involved in our community service program. I was able to do so by working nights and weekends as a bartender/waiter for a small local italian restaurante. Id suggest finding a similar job as you can usually make well in excess of $100 a night while only working 5-6 hours.

I'm 20, in college.. i own a 06 GTO, 01 Sierra, and now a 79 Camaro. Before this i had a RX8 which was a graduation present.. once you get a bit further through school and you can get a decent job relating to your field of study it's pretty easy.. now before i finished my 4th semester and got my associates.. i worked at Best Buy making enough to pay for gas and oil.. I personally don't think i make much money right now last year i made a little under 52,000 before taxes but my fiance makes a bit more than i do a year so.. i guess best suggestions are.. Stick it out until you can get a better job, find you a woman further along in school than you

I had a more expensive car than an f-body when I was in college. I worked, a lot, to pay for it. I wish I would not have made the decision to have a car payment while in college, but live and learn. I could have spent more time studying and making friends instead of working.
