Default How do i tell if my 02 LS has an ls6 block.

Hey everyone, the time finally came yesterday that i become a first time owner of an 02 ws6 ls1.

Basically im pretty broke right now after the purchase im just goofin around with it and i know of the possibility that i might have an ls6 block on my hands with this year model and i also know im not at a huge advantage if i did have it but it would still be cool to know if i did or not

I did something unheard of being a NEWB, I used the search bar before making this post and found this thread (https://ls1tech.com/forums/1740886-post8.html) but the pictures dont show and i didnt find it informational to me?

so basically, im just trying to be pointed in the right direction. I jotted down the block number(12559378) so i am prepared, i just need to know how to figure it out. Thanks alot!!

The bed of my truck looks just like yours. I'd be interested in what I have too.

Im not sure that the blocks were different but the 243 heads on the LS6 and internals in the block were different but I am pretty sure they used the same block.

The block casting number on the rear of the LS6 block is 12561168, so no, that's not an LS6.

Here is a PDF to casting and part numbers from Summit Racing. Your 12559378 is a year 2000 block.

Your at an advantage with the ls1 block unless your going for extended high rpm use.

The windows cast between the mains of The ls6 block make it weaker than the ls1 block. Unless your building a serious road race engine, I wouldn't want an ls6 block.
