How to make 550-600 rwhp from LS1
#21
Spray is out as the OP stated initially. His intention of making it a Pro Touring car kinda rules it out. FI or huge cubes are his reasonable options. Either way is going to be costly with turbo coming in cheaper than Supercharging, but at the expense of reliability and instantaneous power. If it were me and funds weren't an issue, I'd go with a forged internal, iron block with added cubes, a custom cam, and the right set of heads and intake for his set-up. Any or all of this without having the right professional planning, advising and tuning the build will likely amount to a broken pile of parts. Personally, I would build it for much more power than currently desired and then tune and pulley it down for reliability, until and unless more is desired later.
Hopefully he will keep us updated on how his project is going. He definitely has my interest.

Thanks for all the replies. As of now I am leaning toward the pro charger. I have talked with Bob and got a good quote from him on a complete setup with injectors, fuel pump, brackets and all.
I have now added another thread in FI to make sure the motor built as it is will hold up to 8 psi boost to get me to my goal of 550-600 rwhp. I am a little concerned with my current cam (torquer v2) and my 243 heads which will give me about 10.5:1 compression. My only holdup is that I really don't want to spend the $6,000 for the pro charger and another $2500ish for a new forged bottom end stroker kit. If I was to do all that then I would be better off selling my motor and buying a built LS3. I am thinking I will be better off taking my chances using my existing bottom end. Then if the motor was to break I really wouldn't be out much more than the $2500 to rebuilt the bottom end (unless the block blows to pieces).
But yes with my pro touring build NOS is not an option for me. I have a complete Chris Alston front/rear chassis on the way, a fab9 rear end with 35 spline axles, and a 4l80e tranny, so I really don't want to have a weak motor for this build.
For now I have told myself to wait at least a couple weeks to digest all my options before I purchase anything else. And in the meantime if anyway was to offer me a decent price for my current LS1 it would probably make my decision much easier.......
