Hobby cars...amount$?
I know it all depends on what an individual deems as appropriate spending of nonessential funds...but I want some off the cuff car guy input.
I sold my 5th gen camaro and took a 04 ctsv as part of it as trade. I got a good enough deal on the car to look at buying a cs8.8 rear and looking at heads/cam nitrous set up. Or, I could trade it on a c6 vette at a dealer later this year and spend the next couple of years taking it to about 600 whp like the camaro was.
I'm trying to make a decision because I just want a fun street car and I have always loved the ls6 motor...and know the ls3 is plenty stout. I know it's a win win but just trying to talk myself out of the V really. It seems like once the rear is addressed this platform will rock. And you don't see many gen1s modded rolling around. I like rare and neat crap. I could always do a lsa swap later and just drop jaws. What's your opinions? Btw...caddy only has 45k miles. I am not focused on any type of racing...just wanting a fun street car.

Either way it sounds like your going to have a fun street machine. I presonally like the ls3 vette better, seems like a cam and a few bolt ons and the vette will move out good. If your looking for more of a cruiser and want to carry more then 2 people then the ctsv is your choice.

I chewed on this last night some too...I think the V may be the way to go for a while. I can't help but want to sneak in a LSA swap ... I know big money and etc...but it's a long term thing. Something I could do if and when the LS6 gets tired.

I would pick the C6, as I always prefer 2-doors over moordoors whenever possible. I'm also not particularly drawn to sleepers at all, but it seems like you might be so perhaps the early V is a good choice for your goals and preferences.

Thanks...yeah...kids want to ride sometimes...I have two girls in elem. School. I can take them to school in it too...they liked that about the camaro. But they don't think this is anywhere near as cool as the camaro. Which is bothering me, as stupid as it sounds. Lol

If they said this, and it didn't bother you, then I'd say that the V is definitely the right car for you at this time and not to second guess yourself. However, the fact that it DOES bother you means, at least to me, that deep down you aren't totally sold on this car. I have found that the opinions of others, no matter how close (even family), don't bother me at all if I am 100% sure about the thing in question.
Additionally, I don't think you would have made this thread if you were totally certain that you were happy with this car.
The sleeper concept is fun to think about, and a fun thing to experience from time to time. But when you're not surprising some unsuspecting random performance car at a traffic light, the "sleeper" purpose is moot and you have to really like the car outside of that purpose otherwise you'll just end up disinterested in the car. This is why I would recommed to pick a car that you like for itself, forgetting about who you might be able to surprise with it, and then you can always make it faster. People might expect a V8 Camaro or Corvette to be fast, but you can always mod it discreetly to be much faster, and thus still capture some of that sleeper feel.

Although the CTS-V is a nice car and a great concept, I think the 1st gen design is dated. Sleepers are cool.....kinda, but it really depends on what the car is. Coolest sleeper I ever saw was a 08 2wd blacked out Tahoe, it was lowered had super wide tires on it. Dude said he was 600ish RWHP.
