Best LS build for the buck. suggestions
I recently bought a 99 ss roller car and starting the process of building my own from the ground up. But first off id like to know what you guys think is a good engine for fairly cheap. Ive been trying to find 6.0s but no luck around here so far, i also was looking at going with just the original LS1 an build up. or a 4.8 or 5.3

I think a 4.8 with a turbo, or 4.8 with a big cam would be sweet. May not make the 500 HP you are looking for but its something unique. 5.3 is a pretty standard replacement for these cars. If you are 100% stuck on having a 500 hp car just get a 6.0.
When my LS1 goes, I am doing a 4.8 that rev's to the moon.

Hate to burst your bubble but no engine or trans and a 2k budget just don't add up. 2k for just an engine or 2k for just a transmission would be doable if you find some good deals, but the to together if possible will probably break down every 3 miles because it would have to be build out of everybody's old junk parts.
By the way I've got a leaky slave cylinder I'll sell for $2 plus shipping.

i have a buddy that built a 4.8 with boost in his trans am but a 4.8 wouldnt really suite what i want. 5.3 would be last resort, hell id even build the original ls1 up if i cant find a 6.0. But yea i know what your getting at with money. im just focused on the motor right now i dont plan on having the car running for at least a yr. so 2k would be just for the motor alone short block or fully complete with harness. Brand new ls1 crate short blocks run for 1k alone id go that way if i have to. im in a relatively small town so good motors are hard to come by.

speaking of ls1, ive had my eye on this black ss that lives 2 blocks from me its been setting for at least 2yrs that i know of. well yesterday i went over there to see if he would sell it since it has been setting. no one answered the door so i left a note. then this morning i got a call from his mom lol, saying he has been meaning to fix it (she said something about a rod) an i knew right then he would never get around to it. so she said he would sell it for 2500. anyone think thats a good deal? im thinking of selling the roller i just bought an getting this one. its a 2000 ss with an a4, even though im wanting an m6. still has ls1 but she didnt say the miles but the rest of the car is immaculate. hoping that a rod didnt break an **** up the cyl walls too much or the crank. id just strip that motor down an build it back up the way i want instead of searching 100+ miles for a 6.0

if the car looks that good buy it fast before some else does. if your car is a roller its going to be missing so much. just put a yanks ss3200 in it. if you haven't driven a stalled auto you might be surprised how much fun it is.
