LS1 owners - Did you notice an improvement with a LID / Bellow / TB
I did LID and Smooth Bellow first. I would say I "think" I noticed an improvement but it was more so that my mind was telling me that it was there. The throttle body though, I felt that. It's much snappier and it really awakens at highway speeds.
Exhaust is still bone stock, thats getting changed next.

The smooth bellow does absolutely nothing for performance, it's just too short and too straight of a shot in the first place to really gain anything from changing it. Not worth the cost unless you just like the appearance.
On the other hand, lids are a proven performance enhancer. Average gains are usually in the ~7wrhp range for otherwise stock cars, sometimes a bit more with other bolt-ons (such as exhaust) already in place, and even more yet with internal modifications (there was a sponsor that once tested a stock vs. aftermaket lid on a cammed LS1 and reported something like 15rwhp increase from the lid in that application.)

I think it just depends how much you nit pick about little hp gains. I personally, don't care for it. It's got to be very noticeable to get any fun out of it. like, say.. 30hp+

It's hard to beat the air lid in terms of HP:dollar:amount of work:risk/downside ratio. And the gains aren't so little as the engine becomes more highly modified and operated at higher rpms; as mentioned above, I recall at least one before-and-after dyno that showed 15rwhp gains in a moderate cam/header application. I imagine the gains would be even higher with heads and/or larger displacement, and/or with a more aggressive cam.

Way back in 2004 I drove my completely stock 2002 Z28 A4 3.23 car down to thunder racing in Baton Rouge LA to get dynoed. (I was stationed at ft Polk at the time). She put down 291hp at the wheels on their dyno. I bought a whisper lid from their speed shop (the carbon fiber one of course) and put it on the car while it was still strapped down. We made another pull and she laid down 301!
I'm still running the stock bellows and a fram filter to this day lol.

They don't make the whisper anymore unfortunately as it has a nice rubber seal for the maf. I'd look for a used one if you can find it but they will all give about the same improvement no matter the manufacturer. I remember GM high tech did a lid shootout years ago but I don't remember which one the said was best. Just get whatever is cheap or has the look you want.

LID is a LID from my understanding they all net around the same HP with the exception of those 104 MM Lids. I'd try to avoid SLP though as their fitment is absolute garbage. Wont fit the MAF unless you take a heatgun to it, and its difficult to put it in place aswell.
