Default which is faster

my questions which is faster and M6 or the auto in an Ls1 car. I know if the stock format the M6 is. But I have guy that is trying to convince me that it because of the gears or the auto would be quicker.

does anyone have numbers that show which is faster when they have they same gears.

thanks

They won't have the same gears stock. M6s have 3.42s and autos have 3.23s or 2.73s. Fast and quick are two different things. Fast is trap speed and the M6 will definitely shine here... Quick is ETs and the autos can be very competitive here unless the M6 driver is very good.

sorry did try a search but kept coming up with an error.
That was the question if any one had numbers that say they did the M6/A4 swap so the gears would be the same. I should have clarified ET's 1/8th or 1/4 mile.

Thanks

IMHO, a stock A4 with 3.42s would probably be able to get a best of low, low 13s, which still doesn't catch the high 12s of the M6.

On average, stock for stock and model year for model year, the differance between the A4 and M6 in the 1/4 mile will be about .2 sec and 2mph (M6 being quicker/faster). Again, that's on average. If the M6 driver is excellent (I mean excellent) the gap can be bigger.

from my experiance stock for stock a M6 with 3.42 gears vs a Auto with 3.23..at the track m6s will trap a higher Mph compared to the auto ..but on the street froma dead stop a auto will give the m6 all it wants untill the m6s hits about 3rd..both ar fast just some shine better in some conditions.but from a roll abotu 15-20 mph im goin with m6s for the fact of being able to wine the gears out more.but the all changes once a auto either puts better gears in or a stahl behind it

A competent driver in an M6 will beat a stock A4 from a dig or from a roll. But as speeds get faster (with mods) and et goes down the auto will be faster

yes a good driver in a m6 will always have the edge but .honestly most ppl i see cant drive a m6 well enough to get that edge from a dead stop.they either bog it down or spin wildly .but yes the lower your ET drop the auto will always be faster .hard to be consistant ina 9-10 sec m6 even thaugh it has been done

M6's are really more fun to drive and dyno higher mod for mod. A properly stalled automatic will beat an M6 even though its giving up some HP. I heard a quote once that said something about "manuals are fun to drive but stalled automatics win races". Don't know how true that is??!! I like M6's but wouldn't want to drive it in traffic.

I've beaten an M6 on the track numerous times w/ the similar mods but my A4 got beaten by the same car on a roll numerous times at the same night.

A nice stall and some 3:42's or 3:73's will really wake that car up and improve your 60' times significantly.

That's the plan... Yank 3500 / 3.42s and a tune and BFGs should do the trick.

IMO, go with an M6. They take more skill, but they are really fun to drive. And yes, they are faster than A4s in nearly stock form.

LMFAO! You crack me up buddy. Just because a few LS1s have ran 12s, doesn't mean everyone can. The people driving those cars are some of the best in the world. Don't listen to that fool. The auto will be faster for 80% of the people in the world, but some just make fun of it because it doesn't give the right "feel".

I'd think they'd just switch gears before tranny's

On a side note, just go to your closest track some nite and watch what most cars that are winning have, you'll find as you get down into the 11's and 10's it seems a LARGE majority are stalled autos. Not to mention its funny to watch the manual drivers spinning thier street tires to 2.2+ 60's

Hahaha! You're a regular Internet tough guy, aren't you? I'm so upset with you calling me a "fool"...monosyllable insults are SOOOO impressive. Grow up, get a life and maybe someone will take your "advice" seriously. Don't tell me, let me guess...you have an automatic and are nuerotic about it and now take something out of context and get all butt-hurt.

I am an automatic in my Corvette (and I am secure in my masculinity...unlike some folks) and have no complaints. Is it faster than a 6-speed, no.

I'm tired of seeing morons like you who pull in mid 13s in a stock LS1 that should be low 13s. Most manual owners can't drive. It is a fact. Some think they can, but most aren't that good. I know you are in denial about autos, but it is true. FACT. Look at auto vs manual supras for instance. The autos will burn the manuals any day of the week and are more consistent.

Please do some research you ******* douche bag. You may find out that the "im a badass driver" routine doesn't fit because you are 2-3tenths off of the auto that has only a mild stall.

Oh yay, you drive an auto vette. What's done to the car? Why isn't in your sig? Take some pictures of the car then I may believe you.
