Default C4 or LS1 F-Body?

I am in the market...I cant quite afford a C5...I can however get an LS1 F-Body, and I find some nice C4s...whats the way to go?..

I figure I will got alot of that answer...but I just wanna see how the voting falls. Am I correct in saying that a lightly modded LS1 F-Bod can keep up with a C4?

Just a specific example here. My 2000 Camaro SS was 2 seconds quicker and 10+ MPH faster in the 1320 than my 85 Vette when both were lightly modded. I know the LT1's were much quicker than the L98's but still....

Both were strictly bolt-on cars at the time. The only good thing about my 85 Vette was that a regular small block would bolt right in.

Have you ever driven a C4? i think they are not that comfortable and the ride is **** compared to a LS1 f-body. However, there are just not very many of C4's around that are nicely done. It kind of depends on what your long-run target is here. The C4 would make a much better track car, but if you want to just have a nice/fast street car go with the LS1.

i think in the latest issue of GMHT mag, they show how they to take a c4 vette and with about only 2000 dollars worth of parts they got it into the 11's

um..maybe if you put a couple mods on the C4 you can keep up with the stock LS1 fbody. They look like crap, ride like crap, and LT1's just are a PIA to work on and don't give results to mods like the LS1 does. I have had 3 LT1 cars and once I could afford the LS1 I got it. I will never own an LT1 car again!!! For many reasons....such as THEY ALWAYS LEAK OIL EVERYWHERE!!! Don't get me on the subject of optisparks........

A stock ls1 fbody will smoke a c4 vette, its not even a race.

For some reason, I've always liked the LT1 style C4s. I'd say get the C4, and if the power isn't doing it for you, do an LS1 conversion. Has anyone done that yet??

My buddies 01 SS beat my other buddies 96 C4 LT4 without a problem a couple times in a row from 1st gear rolls. About equal drivers and both m6 cars. Get the LS1 F-bod for sure!

i had the same problem ias my dad had a 383 95 vette thought it was the badest thing around i got the LS1 instead and never looked back. $FOR $ teh LS1 is way better than that LT1 mod. i was faster with way less $$$ invested

LS! all the way

Looks like you have already made a decision, and it also looks like everyone is in agreement. I cast my vote for the f-body as well. Here is a video of an LS1 Z (tuned, exhaust, and 4.10s) absolutely smoking a bone stock C6. I don't know all the details of the race. I have heard that the C6 was was an auto, but am not sure. Still, it was pretty interesting to see the results.

C6 Vette vs 99 Z28

If I were the Vette owner I would quickly be considering what performance options I had.

oh goodness gracious. LS1 f-body FOR SURE. a C4...oh dear me, no.

LS1 f-body = better performance, better ride, very reliable, better mileage and IMO, looks a hell of a lot better.

don't get me wrong, i love corvettes, but it sounds to me if you're considering the C4, you just want to say "i own a corvette." IMO, that's not a reason to buy a car - just to get that name. buy the car because you love it. i see way more reasons to love an LS1 f-body than a C4 corvette.

I sold my C4 to buy a new shortblock/heads/cam for my 98Z28 when them rod bearings started dieing. So I sold a C4 to get my Fbody running. I mean the C4 was nice, manual tranny, instrument panel looked like a fighter jet, but it just wasn't built for a heavybuilt tall dude. I always wished the seat could go back further but it was maxxed out.
