It kind of depends on what your long-run target is here. The C4 would make a much better track car, but if you want to just have a nice/fast street car go with the LS1.

An LS1 f-body may be a "poor man's Corvette", but it's only poor compared to the C5, not the C4. If you were considering a C5, thumbs up goes to the Vette over the f-body. Otherwise, get the f-body.

I just copied this from the Vette forum...I went looking and stumbled on this car...I ran the other way...You all agree that I made the right choice? I went and looked at an 01 Z06...The car was a salvage title..only 13,000 miles. The thing had new car smell pumping out of the AC vents, and it was fast as hell...BUT it felt skidish....the tranny seemed to be very clunky, and the engine or clutch almost had a vibration to it as you reved gently to clutch out...the nose of the car was in poor fitment, and the airbags were deployed and still not fixed. They just glued the steering and dash back together. The message center kept flashing airbag , and then, active traction, service engine. seemed like a real nightmare. The lowest they would go was 21,000. 13,000 miles or not, I told them to get bent and drove off in my Lightning. Im all for a Z06 but I think I was right to walk away.

heh my friend owns a C5 and he hates C4s. C4s don't even get love within the Corvette community. Between, a C5 is like a deluxe f-body anyway, just save the money and get the LS1 Camaro or WS6.

If you do a search on my name you will see i'm pretty fair when it comes to these threads. I have owned 11 F-Bodies and know there strengths and weaknesses. I can honestly say please get a LS1 F-Body. I think the C4 is one of the ugliest Corvettes ever. I never liked the styling and they really looked dated now since the C5 and C6's are out. If I were you I'd save up for the C5 but if you can't wait the LS1 F-Body is a great choice

I was in the same situation (LT4 C4 or LS1 F). After browsing both corvetteforums.com and here I have made the decision to go LS1F. Faster car, lower mileage, drives better, newer, etc.
I do think that the C4 with ZR1/CE wheels does look better than an f body though.
