Default O4 gto

my girlfriend is about to buy an 04 gto with 33k and a m6. I believe that was the first year they came out with and awhile ago i saw there was a post from some guy asking if there was any reason to stay away from them. I cant find that post so I'm asking. Is there any reason to stay away from the 04 gto?

No....only real change in years was '05 and '06 have 400hp instead of the 350for the 04.

Im not saying stay away but you will find alot of good info on LS1GTO.com. I had a 2004 for about 2 months. I had the famous strut rub which seems to be unfixable at dealers. If your key fob battery dies, you have to buy a whole other fob ($200). Check out the GTO site, you will find many pro's & con's.

I've had no problems with mine. It's comfortable, reasonably quick, and very well put together for the most part. Gas mileage is fair with the automatic, but with an M6 she should do pretty good on the highway. The only thing that stands out to me as a bad point on the 04s are the stock brakes, but the good news is that it's easy to upgrade to the better 05-06 parts.

Dont be worried about it being a "model year" and having problems. These cars were made in austrailia for awhile as the manaro before being rebadged and a few other things and sent here as the GTO. Also the motor/trans is obviously the ls1 t56 or 4l60e combo which is proven pretty reliable. I had an 04 goat for awhile but they dont get the wow factor as much as the ls2 goats also mine was an a4 and i wanted to shift my own gears.
