What Brand of oil, what weight, and filter shoud i use????
I have a 2000 Z28 with several bolt-ons and aprox 86000 miles. I have owned the car for less than a year. The car has conventional oil now I believe Valvoline 10-30. Should I run synthetic, and what oil weight. I live in New England the car is off the road by OCT so no winter driving. Thanks for the help!

My suggestion...stay away from synthetic...keep using conventional. Synthetic will do nothing for your engine that conventional can't do. 10w30 seems fine. If you're burning more than normal over 3,000 miles, try a 40 weight. AC Delco or Purolator are the best filters to use.
Dino oil can't even compare to todays synthetics.

for all you guy using ac delco, NEED TO STOP USING IT !!! quality is not the same as year ago any more. WIX or PURE ONE or even bosh, if you want pay little more moneys, mobil 1 is very very good.

I use a Napa Gold filter, made by WIX. I've just started using the longer truck filter. Part number is FIL1522. It's the same internal and external dimensions as the car filter, but longer and flows 9-11 gpm while the car filter flows 7-9 gpm.

Guess I'll stick with Purolator.

Same ol synth heads and dino heads.
In some apps. synth is better. Yours may or may not be one of them.
If you push the limits..like very cold starts, racing, very high temp in traffic, extended drain intervals then I would say go synth.
These engine run well on both. I use dino with good luck at 3-4k mile drains. My next car may get synth, but I'm not changing with a high mileage vehicle.

You can run dino and got 200k if you change it good.
But SYN is not that much more, can go longer has better properites all around if its a good base III or IV.
GC 0-30 and K&N filter if you can't find that. I really like PP (penzoil Platium) and no its not going to "gum" up your engine. Very good base III stock. (patman likes it too )
Thats my .02 cents worth.

I also have a BS degree in Aeronautical Science, and another BS degree in Professional Aeronautics, with 2 minors: one in Aviation Safety and the other in Space Flight, along with several type-ratings and just shy of 10,000 hours. ERAU, yup. What does this have to do with oil for cars?
Real life has everything to do with it though and I KNOW what works. Several cars over decades. Stock and heavily modded engines.
As I said, those companies will write anything to get people to buy their ****, fact is, their **** is NO BETTER than regular old oil. Its all about changing it and keeping the engine flushed clean at every oil change. There's nothing more that can be done to make an engine last a long time, than that.
