Doing a Tune-Up and Full Maintenance. What Should I Buy?
Hi,
Just bought a new (to me) SS M6. And I want to do a full general maintenance before I do anything else.
My list so far:
- Oil change
- Tranny fluid change
- Rear end fluid change
- AC service
- AC belt
- Spark plugs
- Spark plug wires
- Coolant flush
- TB and MAF cleaning
- ????
My question is, what kind of tranny and rear end fluid should I use, and what kind of spark plugs and wires should I use?
I am thinking about taking the car to the shop to get all of the above done, but, I want to buy my own parts.
Thanks,
Sid.

You could save yourself some cash, and just do most of it yourself. Whats the car? Trans? Mods? Mileage?
In my opinion, Id get:
Serpentine Belt
A/C Belt
NGK TR55s, MSD Wires
Oil Change
Trans/Rear fluid change
Fuel Filter
Clean MAF/TB
Clean or replace Air Filter.
Depending on mileage:
Replace O2s

Mileage is 45k and it is an M6. What brand of rear end and tranny fluid should i use?
I would do them myself as I have done it a few times with LT1, but I just simply dont have the time.
Thanks.

I am planning on doing a full tuneup on my car but mine is sitting at 130k miles. My list is as follows:
E85 Gas (helps clean up alittle)
Sea Foam (clean up the rest )
Spark plugs change ( I always use NGK TR555)
New wires ( MSD )
Oil change/Filter
Trans/Rear Fluid change
Fuel Filter
Clean up the whole intake system from filter, MAF, etc.
Make sure air pressure is good in tires
Then I will mess with the belts
I might be missing a few things but thats what I have on the list at the moment. You probably dont need the engine cleaning stuff since your milage is low. I will doing everything myself here pretty soon and just wanted to give you my list.

Been doing this 11 years now on my 99' Z28 as follows.
E3 plugs (ran NGKs and they were good just harder to find)
Taylor plug wires (less resistance than MSD and cost less)
Redline Shock proof Gear oil in the diff.
Seafoam Before! you do the oil change
Valvoline 10/40 synthetic (was running Shell Rotella but Valvoline is the only oil that will warr. your motor out to 300K if you run their oil)
Belts Gates from Carquest (Gates are the only belts we run at my job on equipment that run 24/7-365)
Oil filter Purolator, K&N or Mobil1 in that order.
Air filter K&N
TB Brake parts cleaner I just pull mine off to get behind it (ported throttle bodys stay cleaner) this also gives me a clear shot into the intake.
Mass air sensor (CRC makes a cleaner specifically for this)
Coolant any 5 year name brand that will mix with what you already are running.
Fuel filter Wix
DO NOT RUN E85 IN YOU CAMARO- ALTHOUGH IT WILL RUN, THE FUEL SYSTEM AND ECM ARE NOT RATED TO HANDLE A 85% ETHANOL 15% GAS MIX (E85). FUEL SYSTEMS DESINGNED FOR E85 HAVE YELLOW CODED AND TAGGED FUEL LINES AND CONNECTORS JUST RUN A CAN OF SEAFOAM IN THE TANK!!!!
Good luck!
