Default VSS install trouble

I have a 95 Trans Am auto that was having trouble with the speedo jumping all over the place and then the tranny wouldnt shift right. Well i pulled out the vss and tried to replace it and it ended up hitting against the gear and messing up the sensor. I bought a new one and tried again and put the car in neutral and spun the wheel and i can hear it hitting again.

Does anyone have any advice for me on installing the vss? Any tricks or tips appreciated!

it sounds like it is not in all the way. They are stubborn suckers to push in. lube the o-ring up and make sure the sensor is as far in as it will go, then tighten the bolt. If it is still giving you faulty readings then the sensor you purchased may be bad, or incorrect.
