Maybe you have an exhaust leak? Cover your tail pipes with a cloth and look under the car to see if any exhaust is leaking.

If you smell raw fuel, get under the car and inspect all fuel lines and connections. Also check them in engine compartment.

Also as mentioned above, check exhaust system for leaks.

I love that smell! Haha!

What's your exhaust set-up? ... Could be an exhaust leak or bad Cats(if you have them).

One thing that has not been mentioned that mine turned out being on my LT1 bird was that one of the EVAP canister lines had a break in it causing it to leak fuel fumes all the time. It was excessively prevalent when I would pull it into the garage and then come back out several minutes later...

Put hi flow cats on it. I hate the smell of off roads. My clothes always smelled like raw fuel. The cats helped though

When I bought my old '95 bird, it had a gas smell. Previous owner had drilled holes into the gas tank when mounting an amplifier on the flat in the rear storage area. Moron. Carpet had covered it up, took a serious search to find it.

Make sure it's a factory cap and not a discount store "fancy" one. I was able to narrow it down because the smell only occurred on hot days when the fumes in the tank would expand and send vapors into the interior. If you only get a gas smell when the car is running and pressure is in the line, that might send you to a leak in the line, filter, or injector system. EVAP, already mentioned, is a common source. This could be dangerous to you and the car, so be motivated. Take your time and check everything, now. Good hunting!

Screws into the tank from amps, lights, or sub boxes might be fairly common. If this is the case, you must seal it at the tank, not just the hole in the body. I drilled a hole in the body slightly larger (being careful not to drill a bigger hole in the tank located a 1/4" below the body sheet metal) then put gas tank sealer putty on a sheet metal screw and just snugged it down. There might be a safer method, others might have a better idea if this is the cause.
