So this has happended numerous times now. If i hit a rain puddle when driving my voltage with sure. Voltage maxed out and will jump up and down. Instrument cluster lights flicker on amd off and my lights flicker....if i keep tue lights on too long they will blow. Iv been thinking about wasteing my money on an alternator relocation bracket anyone else have problems like this and its only when its a puddle. Battery is good alternator is good. Power wire along with plastic wire harness is good however the power terminal doeant have the rubber boot on it. Would that cause a problem?

Do you have you spash guards on the car? I have not had this problem.

Whats the splash guard? If i look from the top i see the alternator pulley and the ground. Nothing covers it at all. Its a trans am if that matters

I have the splash sheild on the sides that fold down to get to lights thats it.

The spash shield on my car comes Down a little past the altanator next to the wheel well.

Hey i will take a pic under my hood. Mine has nothing by it...can u see your sway bar or doea it cover that too?

Mine goes down about 3 inches below the sway bar. Will try and get a picture after it finally stops raining.

Yea mine doesnt have anything...maybe i rig up some kind of sheild...what does yours bolt to?

My car doesn't have that. I just replaced the alternator - found out the exciter wire had been hacked into and it was causing all sorts of problems. I'm willing to bet when you hit water, either your exciter wire is getting wet (sort of top right of alternator) or the power terminal on the back is getting wet if it doesn't have the boot.

But the flickering sounds more like the exciter wire going apeshit.

Im having this problem also. I need a splash guard, mine was gone after getting the alternator replaced. I cant seem to find one around for sale to buy ;(

Old thread but the photo shows what I need after einsteins at Mueller Motorwerks threw mine out during an engine replacement, despite telling them to keep all old parts. Anyone have the part number of the alternator splash shield handy?
