Default Cold start problem

My 1998 trans am is having a problem starting when it is less than 35 degrees. It's slow to turn over and when it cranks, it revs up to 3k and stays for a few secs, then goes down to try to idle then almost dies. It will then rev back up and repeat the pattern. If I pat the gas, it will rev up but when I let off it takes a few sec to go back down.

My ses light is burnt out. I took it to autozone and it had the code p0442. What I read is that with this fault I shouldn't have any drive ability issues, so I'm not sure if related.

When it's warmer weather it cranks and runs fine. Any ideas?

Your code:
P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)

You need to take your battery in for a test, see if its failing on you. That code has nothing to do with the hard cold starts.
