I have a cracking sound when i am running motor hard what could that be or something is about to happen. when i take off it dosn't make that sound but when I am in third gear and the rpms or at about 4000 it starts making a cracking sound what could that be. my friend told me to get another oil change and put a quart of lucas will that help. I love this web site

Check your exahust and heat sheilds and O2 sensors for any possible rattles. I thought I had detonation and it turned out to be the metal ring around an O2 sensor rattling. Sounded like marbles or beebees in a tin.

AMG, did it do it all the time? i think i have a bad detonation problem also. it seems to get alot worse in hot weather, so i know it's not some **** rattling. i raced my friends z28 today in about 95* heat and i was getting some baadd detonation.. it sounded like i was running on 87 octane gas lol. i run 93 in it btw, just to clarify...

umm, mine sometimes does it too, on mine its just the true duals shaking the whole damn car from vibration. i would check your spark plugs and possibly change them if theyve got a black or white color to them.
