Default OBD I or II

Am I correct in understanding that some of the '95s were OBD I and others were OBD II? I thought all were OBD I until today, when I tried to use my OBD I Auto X-Ray E-Z-Link code scanner on my '95 Formula. The cable for the scanner would not fit the car's diagnostic port. I looked at the box, and the tool says it is for '82-'95 GM OBDI cars. It does mention on the box a part number for '94-'95 OBD II GM cars, which has me a bit confused.

Thanks for any light you can shed on this issue.

Dave

That is correct. OBD 11 was not required until 96

Might be wrong but think 95 is OBDI - with an OBDII DLC port.

That is a very helpful link, thank you.

I don't fully understand the note, however. It says to use pins 5 and 9 on the 12 pin connector in my '95 to connect to my code tool's 9 pin plug. How would I do this?

I'm not familiar with autoxray - but went to their site and found this, maybe it's the PN on your box and for the ODBII DLC '95 cars? http://autoxray.com/product_detail.php?pid=85

Dude, thanks for going the extra mile to help me figure this out, I greatly appreciate your time invested. That looks like just what I need. I wish they would show the other end of the cable so I can be sure it will plug into my scanner, but chances are it will. Not a bad price, either, so I'm going to order one.

Glad to help - just don't get mad at me if it's wrong. Probably works with both their scanner or code reader though.

You've got the be kidding me, dude, that's awesome! lol

I'm going to try that tomorrow on my '95.

It is also great because I am going to look at another '95 Formula T56 on Thursday, and the SES light is on in that car. Now, I'll be able to scan and see what codes pop up!

Awesome.
