Default Power window off track

I followed directions to change the driver side power window motor by supporting the window about half way with rubber stops. The stops slipped and so did the window. Now it's off it's tracks. I struggled with it for awhile in 100 degree+ heat and finally lost my cool. So what do I have to do to get it back on track inside the door? Do I take the whole up and down mechanism out and remount it? Or should I be able to get it back on track in the door? So far I haven't found anything on nthe net about this. It's a 2000 Trans Am WS6. Any input appreciated and I hope this is the right forum for this kind of question.
