Default That metaly... rubby noise when going in to R?

So I've owned three F-Bodies and EVERY one has made this noise so I'll assume its normal for now:

When shifting into reverse from park, I get an audible "grinding" noise from what I assume is my rear end. I'm not sure exactly how to describe it but it almost sounds like two pieces of metal rubbing together with sand or dirt in between them. It only lasts for a split second as I feel my car shift into gear. The sound also occurs going into D, but it's not as loud.

I know the rear ends in these cars aren't great, but is this something to worry about? What IS it? Like I said, it's not really a "grinding" so much as it sounds like a "rubbing"... just with sand in between two pieces of metal.

Did you ever find the problem or get an answer?

No I haven't but I'd like to. It's getting worse it seems. It even grinds going through gears now, but not to the same extent as it does going into reverse.

Anybody, a little help?
