Default burning oil?

every now and then when i take off from a stoplight, i can see my car burning oil, and i've been behind it while someone else drove it and seen it, too.

i've heard its fairly common for the pcv valve to suck in oil in burn it or something along those lines. should i be concerned? or could it just be this problem?

thanks guys

the pcv valve usually wont burn or dispose of that much oil where you can constantly see it

The concern is the piston rings seating or not seating properly when the engine is turned on for the first time ever. I'll let some of the hardcore guys chime in if I'm wrong.

Some of these cars have a severe pcv problem some don't. I would do a leak down test, if that turns up normal then look at pulling the throttle body and having a look inside with a flashlight for oil. Most of the time when it is a pcv issue with oil burning it is a blower car because of excess blowby but with you I would also consider if it could be your tune. Maybe you are just that rich. Maybe you need to go see big Dan the tune man. haha. I will be tuning on the 22nd at 1:00

Dan is the most economical place in our area to tune and he is very skilled for his age, he will not take advantage of you. If you were there this winter and seen the blue trans am with "blwnws6" plates that was there so long, it was mine. I got stuck there when my exhaust got broken off on his lift and some other stuff. Now its all fixed and I'm ready to tune complete with a new fuel system, fmic and a few other goodies that Ive upgraded. Im hoping for 50 or 60 more hp. Dan on the other hand is much more optimistic.

A leakdown test will be a lot more involved than a PVC valve change. I'd just change the PVC and see if it helps first. its a $3 part. if its not the PVC ohh well you are out a couple bucks and 10 minutes.

A leak down test has nothing to do with a pcv valve. Ive reread my post and don't know how you got that out of it. I guess I'm in the newb section. These two statements were separate. Maybe I jumped around too much, with my thinking, and confused you. It has to do with compression and is similar to a compression test except it doesn't just measure lbs in each cylinder, it measures the rate at which they leak that pressure out. You silly man.

I know what a leakdown test is and didn't say a PVC valve had anything to do with it. I'm just saying that the only problem may be the PCV valve alone and to change that first because its a simple change and may solve the problem. If it still blows oils then go on from there.
