I got a p0440 code yesterday morning and today my car didnt' want to start. It just cranked over. It finally started I and headed to the gas station. When I start filling gas starting shooting from everywhere. Like the filler neck was clogged or something or like when you top off. I thought maybe it was the nozzle so I tried a different pump. Same thing. It just puddles in the opening. I had enough gas to make it home. All this happend right now.

Well the PO440 is Evaporative Emission Controll System malfuntion. I got that on my previous Bird if the gas cap wasn't on tight. The system needs to run pressurized and a leak will throw a light code. But if it's not taking any gas at all then something must be plugged. And you have starting issues. A few other people have had problems getting the tank to take gas. Don't know what the solution was. One of them was member RPM WS6, a senior moderator on here. You could try a PM or search for his advice.
