Default Wiper arm removal

Does anyone know how to get the damn wiper arm off! It's the passenger side of a 2002 Tans Am and I took the nut off 2 weeks ago and still haven't figured it out. I looked for a snap ring or clip and do not see one on either the new or old one. It's like it is press fitted on the shaft but I don't want to take a wheel puller to it until I here from someone. We have had rain and I thought it would work it's way loose by now with no nut holding it on. Thanks, John.

It is a splined tapred fitting. There are special pullers availible for wiper arm removal. You can try and support the arm and slightly tap the shaft to try and dislodge; be careful not to damage any of the wiper transmission.

Thanks. I will try that tomorrow and let you know how I make out. I did not want to force it off but at least now I know that there is nothing holding it on and that I can use a little force. Thanks again, John.

remove the wiper nut and then tilt the arm in the up position and rock up and down gently on the lower part of the arm by where you removed the nut. i have been in the business for several years and never used a wiper remover

IMO Dont risk it. Go to the auto parts store & buy the wiper arm removal tool.

Its cheap enough, and worth the extra insurance in preventing the risk of cracking your windshield!

I tried one of those wiper arm tools but it wouldn't fit my car, the screw in it didn't line up with the wiper shaft. If you're careful you can pry them up and off without damaging them.

Well did ya get the arm off? Take your time it will come off!

You can also use a battery terminal top post remover tool- it is basically the same thing.

Well I tried wiggling and pulling it but it won't budge. I saw the other wiper moving so I didn't want to pull and wiggle too hard. I guess I will have to buy the tool or devise one this weekend. I ran out of time but I'll let you guys know how I make out. Thanks for all the suggestions, John.

I hold the arm and hit the shaft with a hammer.

Wipers?

What are those? Haven't used them since the late 80's, plus IMO makes cars look like A$$

Yours sounds as stuck as mine were, get a puller...and play nice!

Ok. Now it's becoming a "thing". I tried rocking and wiggling and I tried a wheel puller with wire wrapped around in a figure 8 and it broke the wire. It looks too simple to go and buy a wiper puller that might not work (thank you formula413) so I think I'm going with the hammer tomorrow. I will get back to you guys. Thanks again, John.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I gave up. I can't bring myself to take a hammer to it so I'll ask a shop if they can take it off for a few bucks.
