high whine sound
Ok I'm not sure if it’s the rear end or the transmission. Here is what happens when slowing down I get a very loud whining sound around 45 down to 30 mph. Note: I'm in neutral clutch is not engaged.
While the clutch is not engaged I can put force on a gear (like I'm trying to force it in gear without using clutch) and the noise will stop.
Lately the sound has even started while I'm driving never while accelerating though.
I have checked the ring and pinion for wear patterns and they are great and the backlash is at 7 thousands. I also left the driveshaft in the transmission while it was in gear and there was very little play in it.
Any ideas??? I'm lost here
I think I have a video with the sound if I do I'll post it up.

I've been thinking tranny also but six speeds inc has told me it couldn't be.. Thats why I thought it was in the rear end but it wouldn't be the gears because it's really only at 30-45 mph and when I push on the shifter it stops.

Pushing on the shifter is a good sign it is the tranny. If the problem goes away while putting it in gear, then I also say t-56. If it was the rear it most likely would continue no matter if it was in gear or not. Plus i would get Six Speed Inc to upgrade the tranny while your at it if this does happen to be the case. It will cost you $800 now or more later. Learned my learn 3 times already
