Default smoking

my '02 SS has about 77,000 miles on it and i have never had a major problem out of it. it's got a pcv catch can, CAI, and i just got my long tubes and catless true duals installed and not long after that i started smelling fumes but i figured it was normal because i took the cats out and had a few exhaust leaks. it's gottin a little worse now, i think, and when you rev it smoke comes out of the left exhaust tip. since its true duals i'm thinking the problem is in one of the DS cylinders. how would i figure out what the problem is? thanks

What kind of smoke? Blue, white, black? Does it do it on startup or after its been running for a few minutes? Is it worse when the motor is cold vs warm? Is it using any more oil than usual? Answers to these questions would help with a diagnosis.

it's white smoke and it seems to do it the same when its cold as it does when it's warm and it smells like burning oil. i'll check the oil in a little bit.

Interesting. Usually smoke from burning oil will be blue. White smoke usually indicates the motor is running lean. Check the level and see if its down at all from where it would normally be.

i just checked the oil and it's well into the operating range. i also checked my catch can and it barly had enough oil to coat the bottom so it wasnt over flowing or anything like that. you think it's running lean because of the new exhaust and it's never been tuned? and if it were lean, wouldnt it be on all cylinders, causing it to smoke from both tips?

I doubt its running lean just from the catless true duals. You are not getting any SEs lights or codes being thrown at all are you? How is the performance, running strong?

i think i'll do that. but if it's not blue smoke, it's not burning oil? that's what i was worried about.

Well I am not going to say its not oil for sure especially if it smells like oil but generally if its oil the smoke will be blue in color. Coolant can sometimes be white in color when its burnt but it has a very sweet smell to it not an oil smell. I would get the codes pulled again and monitor the oil very closely over the next few days. Also check your coolant and make sure there is no oily residue in the coolant and no coolant in the oil.
