car doesn't start & P0440 error code
My 2000 Trans Am started up fine yesterday, but it had a P0440 error code. Today, my car had trouble starting. It would take several tries of cranking the car before it would start up (it turns over, but doesnt start up). Once the car was started, if i turned it off and immediately tried to turn it back on, it would crank just fine. However, once I turn off the car and wait more than 10 mins, the car wouldn't start on the first try. Is this problem related to the P0440 error code? I know the P0440 error is related to an evap malfunction. Is the car not getting enough fuel?

I don't think P0440 is the starting problem, my girlfriends car throws it all the time after getting gas and haven't fixed it yet - no driveability or starting issues. I'd check your fuel pressure first. In case you haven't seen it here's the diagnostics for the code: www.gearchatter.com/viewtopic9008.php

to be honest im thinking a bad check valve on the fuel pump. so probably time for a new pump. but if you have access to a fuel pressure gauge hook it up with out the engine running and just let it prime the system and see if it leaks back down with the pressure gauge. if it does im sure you figured out the problem.
