Default electrical problem on 2003 mustang v6

ok so my wife's car just randomly wouldn't start today. she started it this morning, and it started up fine. i went to start it to move it, and the dome light will come on, but when i turn the key to the on position, nothing comes on. so i jump started it with mine, started up. first thing i think is bad battery. ok so i let it run for a bit, then shut it off. i go to start it back up, and it's completely dead again.

when i first shut it off, and i moved the key back to the on position, the dome lights and radio and everything were on, but as soon as i turn it to start it up, everything just dies. so i can jump it, and it reads fine on her gauges, but it can't start back up. would this be a bad battery or an alternator problem? wouldn't a bad alternator kill the engine as soon as i took the cables off?

Bad BATT. you can run the car off the alt when it's "jumped off" and running but there is a dead cell or two in the batt keeping it from holding a charge and restarting
