car cranks while connecting battery.... WTF??!
I started out with what I think is a VATS problem (full electricty, no crank, security light flashing). I removed the starter and took it to auto zone to be tested. It passed three test.
I hooked up the wires back to the starter (only 2 wires) then bolted it back in. went to connect the battery negative first then when placing the positive post it cranked by itself....
Their are only two wires that specifically fit the bolts they go on. I dont think i messed that up. So what did I do wrong?

I did the SAME thing when i ripped my trans out and put it back in.. alright.. i think its on the pos wire to the starter that theres a little hook on the ring.. when i did mine the hook was actually able to touch the negative side of the starter cable causing it to crank when you connected the battery.. hope thats all thats wrong!! let us know

Ill check it later on tonight, Im at work right now. And no the car was not in gear. This is the only problem I have had on 130,000 miles. My car is probably fixing to fall apart.

If it cranks when you connect the battery, more than likely its a bad starter solenoid. All you have to do is replace the solenoid. Its stuck in the closed position, some will stick in the open position and then the car won't crank at all.
Its a regular occurance with my '88 Ford F250, luckily its mounted high on the PS fender and easy to change. The last time it really had me going, I tried two different new ones from one of the national parts big wig and both were bad (read: stuck closed), went to a different place after that and third time was a charm-nothing quite like that thing locking up on the starter and you literally have to jerk the cable off the battery to make it stop.
