Exhaust ? 3", 4" or Bassini True duals
I don't want to have to spend money twice so my question is how much of a Choke point is a 3" cat back on a H/C car ? I really like the sound of the
B & B cat back but I'm going to do long tubes and H/C in the future and don't want to buy a new exhaust. Mufflex has a 4" catback and Bassini has duals which I'm sure flow better I just don't like the sound of them. At the same time I don't want to leave any power on the table after spending the money for it. My thoughts were 4" mufflex better flow than 3" but lighter than duals. I'm hoping someone will talk me into the B & B because thats what I really want.

you may should see some gains with a well setup true dual system over a y but i dont think it would be enough to really notice. the sound although will be much better. i just traded from an o/r Y to TDs and the sound speaks for itself. no more rasp and to me the idle is deeper and cleaner. your best bet is to have the duals custom done. mine only cost me 300 with dynomax bullets

Get a custom 3'' TD made. Search around. It is very easy to dump them but something that could help the sound would be to run them all the way over the axle out back although that can get expensive to have it custom made. It all depends on the money you want to spend. A well-known exhaust bender here and a good friend of mine was going to do it for about 900 so the price can get up there but I have seen one of his that he did on a lift and it looks amazing and tucked really nicely with not a lot of ground clearance loss over an aftermarket catback.

I'm not that computer savy but this link should take you to some pics.
It looks heavy to me. There ar pipes bending all over the place under the car. I may just go with the B & B . Its a clean install and sounds good. I was just wondering if it was going to cost me HP down the road when I do H/C.

Mufflex only offers a Spintech or Flowmaster Muffler. Might sound better with a Borla or Magnaflow instead. Have to check and see what they have in 4 inch.

It looks like a pretty cool exhaust, especially if you have stock manifolds and cats. I give them credit for building a true dual system that goes back the entire way.
Are you planning on running headers? If not, I would go with that setup or any decent 3" catback. For the money, Magnaflow makes a decent piece.

on a h/c engine
YES you will be leaving power on the table by not going with a bigger exhaust.
how much is gonna depend on the engine. but i would say 10-15hp, mostly in the upper rpm range.
if its worth it TO YOU to gain that power...than change.
the bassani is nice, but $$$
the mufflex is nice but your muffler choices are limited.
you could also go with a mufflex 3.5" exhaust. i think it will fit a little easier and still show gains over the 3" setup, and be a little cheaper.
personally...TDs dumped at the axles is my choice. love the way mine sound with magnaflow 4x9s on a cammed engine.

Nope. No inspection or emmisions. I'm going to run cats anyway with the long tubes just to cut down on the smell .

I have a 3.5" Mufflex system. I love it; unique sound, good power and fits well considering how large the piping is.

Thanks for the replies. Mufflex is the best bang for the buck . Just have to fine tune the sound with a better muffler. I don't want to drop the cash for H/C and a tune and leave 15 hp untapped. Wish B & B made a bigger system. I found a Stainless Works cat back that was 3.5 not as big as Mufflex but better than 3inch. Anyone got a sound clip of this .

BTW to the original poster, I swapped from a Magnaflow CB which sounded good to a 4" Mufflex system with a Spintech. I love the way my Mufflex system sounds. It's very unique and has a really deep racecar sound.
