"3in pipe after the Y pipe back into the muffler."
you mean like just about every catback on the market sold for the Fbody?
whats your question?
no 3" is not bad, compared to the 2.75" stock.

It all depends on how much power you are making. IMO it is adequate for bolt ons. Once you get north of 450rwhp it becomes more of a restriction. If you factor in a 3" cutout in the I pipe you could probably go higher in the HP range.

I've got an 02 Trans Am with 3" off the headers, into 4" merge to 3" out the back. It is too low and barely makes it over the axle without hitting. The Y pipe and cats aren't close enough to the floor on the passenger side, the 3" going to the back doesn't fit up into the tunnel. I'm headed for a full custom stainless steel exhaust 3". I am lowered 1.2 inches but is it BS that the pipe isn't in the tunnel with the drive shaft. Love my Borla muffler, really like the QTP headers, very unhappy about everything in between. It is going to be about $1,500 to get it fixed right.
